Volume 1, puzzle 5

Case 5 is in the first 25 Elementary cases identified in the UK preview. These folded checks focus on keeping the three pairwise grids consistent. We have not reproduced or independently verified the full case 5 text; the prompts are general opening-band method.

Level 1: mark every negative

Read each clue in your own book and mark every explicit exclusion, even when it seems obvious. Check whether each sentence refers to a person, an object or a location before choosing a grid.

Level 2: carry a match through the third grid

Original example: if Ana is in the studio and the studio contains the key, Ana has the key. Use that same transitive check on your case 5 associations. A full suspect-location grid alone is not a finished solution.

Level 3: reconstruct the last mark

For each inferred check, identify the earlier matches or exclusions that forced it. If a row has two blanks, leave it undecided. Once every association is justified, apply the case-specific crime clue to choose the accusation.

Volume 1 contains 100 puzzles and the publisher describes the climb from Elementary toward Impossible. A single-digit number sits in the opening band: statements are usable directly, and the grid closes if you honor every negative.

  1. Copy the cast into a blank grid from the printables page.
  2. Mark checks and crosses the sentences state outright.
  3. Fill any row or column that has one blank.
  4. Do not open a solution photo. The back of your own book is the key if you own it.
